More than $46,000 was raised during the eighth annual rooftop campout, the highest amount raised by the event.

After spending 100 hours on the rooftop of the Tim Hortons in Eagle Ridge, five members of the Fort McMurray Fire Department came down from their temporary home on Saturday, where they were greeted with a community pancake breakfast at East Village Pub.

The firefighters were hoisted onto the roof by a fire truck on Tuesday, where they raised money to support five local charities. Approximately $19,000 was raised through in-cash donations from people passing by within the narrow timeframe.

The funds will now be distributed between the Wood Buffalo Food Bank, Fort McMurray SPCA, Boys and Girls Club, Waypoints and the Centre of Hope.
